With two sources of energy, a hybrid electric vehicle manages to deliver both power and efficiency. Seamlessly combining petrol and electric power, the hybrid electric system monitors driving conditions to intelligently co-ordinate both power sources when required.
BRAKING

BRAKING

The hybrid battery is always charging — even whilst braking. When the hybrid electric vehicle stops or slows down, the regenerative braking system converts the kinetic energy produced from the braking process into electrical power, which is then routed to the battery to charge.

The Driver’s Mind Index in the LC 500h and LS 500h observes your driving style and anticipates your every move. It ensures that the transmission is constantly primed to respond with the most optimal gear for every step of your journey.

SELF-CHARGING BATTERY

In a Lexus hybrid electric vehicle, the battery is charging even when you’re driving. The heat energy generated while driving and during braking is repurposed to charge the hybrid electric battery. This means your Lexus never has to be plugged in to charge.

EV DRIVE MODE

With the push of a button, switch to EV mode and use only electric power for a silent, zero-emission drive. EV mode is recommended for city driving at low speeds.

AUTO GLIDE CONTROL

Featured exclusively in the ES 300h, Auto Glide Control decelerates as if coasting in neutral when you lift your foot off the accelerator pedal. This helps to improve driving efficiency.
